Scanpower Ruahine MTB Challenge Saturday, 20th March 2010

Its time to dust off the helmet, limber up and prepare for the Ruahine Challenge again.
The Dannevirke Rotary Club is busy orgainising the third annual ride on our magnificent course along the base of the Ruahines from Te Apiti wind farm on the saddle Road to Skye Farm north of Dannevirke.

Registration: Download from the Entry Form page, print, fill out then send it in!

This time around we are offering three levels of challenge. The top level of difficulty is a 61 km ride from the Saddle road through to Skye Farm. The track runs along farm tracks, sealed and gravel roads and paper roads through farm land not otherwise open to the public. Two challenging climbs up to 500 and 650 metres ASL and good downhill runs, along bush edges and spectacular views are all part of the deal. Time to beat 3 hours 29 minutes.

Mid level of difficulty is a 31 km ride starting at Coppermine Road some 16 km along the way of the top level ride. This course has the 500 m top point, more farm trails then down to Top Grass Road via West Tamaki Road to the finish. Time to beat is 1 hour 53 minutes.

For juniors and those wanting less of a challenge we are offering a 25 km course starting at Coppermine Road, along farm tracks to Kumeti Road, down to Top Grass Road to the finish.

All bikers will assemble at the old Umutaoroa Hall, be transported by bus to the start and ride their way north back to the school. Lots of side roads lead into the route for supporters at viewing spots or for those who want to shorten their ride.

After the ride there will be a BBQ sausage sizzle and spot prize draw. The two top prizes in 2009 were a mountain bike of retail value of $2000 and a $1000 travel voucher. The winners were Armando Nold & Gary Stutter, seen with their prizes below

Registrations need to be in by 10 March 2010 if you want an entry pack. Those who turn up on the day without registering will be welcome but we can’t guarantee a pack.

Cost $65 for 61 km ride and $45 for the two shorter rides. An early bird discount of $8 applies to entries received by 10 March 2010. (We will accept entries on the day).
